Dr. Vidhya Koka is opening a walk-in and urgent care clinic today inside the Wal-Mart Supercenter in San Jacinto.

She has had a medical office nearby for four years and is medical director and president of SJ Medical Group. Doctors at the new clinic will work under her leadership.

Called The Clinic at Walmart, it is the first in-store medical clinic in a Southern California Wal-Mart, according to the chain’s website.

“€œWe are confident that our model of partnership will provide access to quality health care services for folks who don’€™t want to wait in a busy emergency room or can’t get in to see their physicians,” said Dr. John Agwunobi, president of Wal-Mart’s health and wellness division, in a corporate fact sheet about the clinics.

Civic and government leaders are expected to attend the 10 a.m. grand opening, according to Lakshman Koka, chief executive officer of the medical group, and the husband of Dr. Koka. The Wal-Mart is at 1861 S. San Jacinto Ave.

“We wanted to offer our services to residents/potential patients who avoid going to doctors either because they do not have insurance or they are worried about the cost of medical care,”€ Lakshman Koka said in a news release. At the clinic, charges for treatments are posted.

The clinic accepts most insurance and cash. It will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.
